Nithsdale Road, Pollockshields Conservation Area
The former Gurdwara is a substantial sandstone villa (807 sq.m) located in the leafy Pollockshields West conservation area and has for a number of years, and until very recently, been utilised as a Sikh Temple.
Glasgow Together has converted the premises back to residential use, forming three extremely high quality flats each of which have their own floor level and separate entrance.
This project has provided 12 months work for 6 Glasgow Together employees with offending backgrounds as well as 230 days of work for current offenders on community payback orders and volunteers seeking work experience.
Elements of the work were also pre-fabricated in Barlinnie prison and then fitted on site.
Nithsdale Road proved to be a complex refurbishment and has been challenging in the best possible sense. A great many skills have been learned and given the access to site is up a large number of steps it’s fair to say fitness levels and overall wellbeing have also been massively improved!
