“I feel like there's light at the end of the tunnel now, whereas before I was wandering around in complete darkness.”

Luke's Story

Luke was 34 when he began the programme in 2016 and, from the start, proved to be reliable, hard-working and committed to work.

He had been through a fairly traumatic period in his life in the few years before joining us and was very open about what had happened to him and open to receive help and support wherever it was offered.  The main areas that Luke needed support were around improving his confidence to socialise, getting his own accommodation sorted and getting to a place where he felt his life was back on track again.

Luke had very little construction experience before joining us but has picked up skills in many areas including building stud walls and suspended ceilings, plaster boarding, fitting window frames and handrails, small plumbing tasks and general carpentry.

Luke has gained his CSCS labourers card by completing his test and a one-day health and safety course enabling him to work on any building site. He has been taken on by Jericho as a trainee Electrician for the foreseeable future.

Luke has moved into his own accommodation and has a really stable housing and financial situation. He has started to socialise more with old friends, family and work colleagues. Luke is no longer on probation and has remained crime-free since his only conviction.  Luke feels much more stable emotionally and has really benefitted from having people around him to support and encourage him.

In September 2016 he said “I’m on top of the world”.
