“Everyone in this company tries to help me when I’m down; I’ve never really had that before.”
Darren has been in and out of prison since he was a teenager and is now in his mid-thirties. He never completed his education and the only formal training he ever received was while in prison.
Darren had previously engaged in numerous recovery programmes and back to work initiatives but none of these was able to offer the opportunity of full time work. As a result he became reliant on state benefits.
Together offered Darren his first ever full time job. It was a steep learning curve but an exciting adventure. Initially he was worried that his lack of work experience would mean he would not be considered for work with us, but quickly saw that this was not an obstacle.
Darren worked hard on site and equally hard at trying to turn his life around by managing his money, taking responsibility for himself and his family and home.
His ambition through our programme is to become an independent person who can support himself. Darren is exploring what opportunities could be available for him once he finishes work with Together now that he has grown tired of his old lifestyle and seen different way of life.
